Welcome to Let the Music Play Games: Europe’s New Initiative Bridging Music and Video Games

In recent years, music and video games have drawn closer than ever and their fast-growing relationship is reshaping how we think about both industries. Let the Music Play Games is a new European project that explores this exciting intersection, fostering dialogue and long-term collaboration between music professionals and independent game developers.

Co-financed by the European Commission, LMPG brings together a consortium of leading cultural organizations committed to innovation in the music and video gaming sectors: Music Innovation Hub (Italy), Centre National de la Musique (France), Music Information Centre Austria – MICA (Austria), Music Finland (Finland), and Spielfabrique (Germany). Together, we aim to unlock the full potential of cross-sector collaboration through research, professional training, legal guidance, and matchmaking programs.

The initiative was born from a simple observation: while music and video games share a natural synergy, they often speak different languages. Legal uncertainties, knowledge gaps, and limited networking opportunities have prevented the emergence of sustainable, equitable partnerships — particularly in the independent sectors. Let the Music Play Games responds to this challenge by creating spaces where composers and game creators can meet, exchange ideas, and build a shared understanding.

In the coming months, the project will roll out a series of activities across Europe designed to support professionals from both industries. We’re currently working on the first phase of the project, which includes sector mapping and a dedicated survey to better understand the needs and dynamics of both fields. From the publication of practical Guidelines to capacity-building events and matchmaking sessions, LMPG is committed to fostering fairer business models and opening new creative and economic pathways.

Follow our journey as we build bridges between music and video games — and help shape a more connected, sustainable future for both.
